Nervous Tissue
Nervous tissue forms the brain, spinal cord, and nerves. It is responsible for coordinating and controlling many body activities.
Nervous tissue contains two principal cell types. These are the neurons (neuro = nerve) and the neuroglia (-glia = glue).
NERVOUS TISSUE | |
Structure | It contains 3 basic portions. These are cell body, axons and dendrites. |
Location | Nervous System |
Function | Neurons are nerve cells, sensitive to various stimuli. It converts stimuli to nerve impulse. Neuroglias are cells that protect, nourish and support neurons. |
NOTE– Neuroglia discussed in the Central Nervous System.
